Dear Alumni: We’ve been delighted to see so many of you on campus this week! Young alums returning from college for the summer have swung by to re-connect with friends and favorite teachers. Another strong contingent turned out Thursday for the annual alumni soccer match against our current players (and won!). Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, a strong showing of spirited graduates cheered everyone today at Orange, White, and Blue Day and gave their best at the alumni tug of war! Last week our board chair, John Harper, and I had the pleasure of connecting with numerous graduates in South Florida as part of our Miami reception, generously hosted by Tim Pitts, GHS ’00. That marks the fifth off-island alumni reception we’ve held in the last two years, and the…

Dear Alumni: As the end of the school year nears, I wanted to invite you to donate to the Good Hope Country Day School’s Annual Fund, the backbone of our fundraising initiatives and a critical part of our efforts to provide students following in your footsteps with a world-class education here on beautiful St. Croix. To help you understand the importance of the Annual Fund, I am including a link to testimonials (click here), a snapshot of a few of our graduates (below), and a link to our 2015-16 Annual Report in the event you have not already seen it. I am also attaching an update on my 2016-17 Head of School Goals (GHCDS Update May 2017). It’s been a busy year! For better or worse, alumni participation in the…

Dear Alumni: Spring is in the air on St. Croix! As you all know, this is such a gorgeous time to be out watching a soccer match, reading with a book buddy under a shady palm tree, or simply having a slice of pizza at the snack shack with friends. It’s also a great time to be exploring off campus and even off island, the perfect segue to Mini-Gusto! Mini-Gusto Week, which took place this year March 13-17, is generally regarded as one of the top GHCDS experiences. To help you travel down memory lane, we are sharing Summary Reflections from 9th-12th graders who participated in everything from minor surgeries to kayaking tours. I hope you enjoy seeing the amazing range of experiences available to our students.  (Click here) to…

Dear Alumni: This is a big week at GHCDS—the week of Mini-Gusto! As most of you know and experienced first-hand, it is an opportunity to participate in internships, excursions, and activities on and off island to explore passions, learn new skills, and have fun. What’s not to like? Every morning, every lunch hour, and every afternoon this week I’ve gotten a jolt of energy from hearing the amazing things our students in grades 7-12 have been doing. We have students catching air and defying gravity with their kite boards, completing fern pyramids as part of service work at the botanical gardens, earning their PADI certification with dives off the wall and under the pier, strumming the six-string to enhance their serenading abilities, competing in sailing regattas off the coast of…

Dear Alumni: Wow. Two off-island alumni receptions in the span of a month—we are on the move! Thank you so much to Rhea Abramson, GHS ’92, for hosting our reception earlier this month in New York City, and thank you so much to Congresswoman Plaskett for hosting our upcoming March reception in Washington, D.C., when our two division heads, Ms. Dawn Grey and Ms. Denise Blanchette, and I will be attending the National Association of Independent School (NAIS) conference nearby. We look forward to connecting with alumni in the Nation’s Capital! In the meantime, we’re thrilled to have entrepreneurial alumni sharing their secrets with our Introduction to Business students, and other graduates making headlines in the mainland.
