This Week in Sports

Hi Panther Families!

What a fantastic week! See below for news on each of our teams. Competition and practice times/days are listed just beneath the team updates.

I’ve included a Little League 2020 flyer at the very end of the sports news. This is for children ages 4-18, and includes baseball AND softball. As a side note, my son played Little League, and our days at the ballpark are some of my fondest memories! I can also recommend the chicken and fries at Canegata, but that’s just a personal, tasty memory. Ha!

Flag Football-Great start to the season on Thursday! Elementary win over Alfredo Andrews 20-12, and a fantastic win (with a safety in the final minutes) for Middle School over Eulalie Rivera 14-12!

Participation fees for flag football are $25.00 and thanks to the many that have already paid! Fees can be paid by check or cash, and can be dropped in my mailbox in the front office. If parents would like a receipt, our fantastic front desk staff can help. If writing a check, please denote your team in the memo section by writing “Elementary Flag Football” or “Middle School Flag Football”. Thank you for helping with this important detail!

VolleyballMiddle School had an exciting start to the season with two matches, one against John H Woodson, and the second against Arthur Richards. It’s okay that we haven’t won a match yet, as we have a young and quickly improving team! We’re so proud of their spirit and determination!

Our JV Girls defeated Complex to start their season (pictures above), but Central gave them a run for it, and we took a loss to them on Thursday. Our JV Boys started with a win by forfeit, then took a tough loss to Complex after winning their first set. I see great things ahead for both!

Varsity Boys faced Complex and Central this week, two tough but close losses, and our Varsity Girls took on Free Will and St. Joseph. The girls came out on top against St. Joseph. Our coaches report that with some extra passing work and tightening up rotations, our teams are going to show great progress quickly.

Participation fees for Middle School and JV Volleyball are $35.00 and Varsity (due to tournaments) will be $45. These fees were due last week, and need to be paid promptly. I won’t be able to enter Varsity in tournaments until this has been handled. Fees can be paid by check or cash, and can be dropped in my mailbox in the front office. If parents would like a receipt, our fantastic front desk staff can help. If writing a check, please denote your team in the memo section by writing “Middle School Volleyball”, “JV Volleyball”, or “Varsity Volleyball” Thank you for helping with this important detail!

Cross Country-Our sure and fast footed Panthers are ready to race this Wednesday! We can’t wait to see you compete! Meets are on October 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, and they are all at UVI. We will provide transportation to the University, and parents should meet their athletes at the race.

Participation fees for Cross Country are $25.00 and should be paid beforehand. Fees can be paid by check or cash, and can be dropped in my mailbox in the front office. If parents would like a receipt, our fantastic front desk staff can help. Please denote your team in the memo section by writing “XC or Cross Country”. Athletes that are training but do not intend to compete have a slightly reduced fee of “$20.00”. Thanks so much for helping with this detail!

High School Sailing-Last weekend our sailors took to the waters in Hollywood FL to compete in the first South Points Regatta of the season. Look for a write up on their successful trip in next week’s news!
