Dear Alumni:

Wow. Two off-island alumni receptions in the span of a month—we are on the move! Thank you so much to Rhea Abramson, GHS ’92, for hosting our reception earlier this month in New York City, and thank you so much to Congresswoman Plaskett for hosting our upcoming March reception in Washington, D.C., when our two division heads, Ms. Dawn Grey and Ms. Denise Blanchette, and I will be attending the National Association of Independent School (NAIS) conference nearby. We look forward to connecting with alumni in the Nation’s Capital!

In the meantime, we’re thrilled to have entrepreneurial alumni sharing their secrets with our Introduction to Business students, and other graduates making headlines in the mainland. Read below to find out more!

Happy Ag Fair Weekend!

Kari

NYC Alumni Reception

Nearly two-dozen graduates braved the frigid February temperatures to attend the first Good Hope Country Day School alumni reception in New York City on February 4. The event was graciously hosted in Lower Manhattan by Rhea Abramson, GHS ’92.

The alumni included graduates from the Good Hope School, Country Day School, and Good Hope Country Day School, spanning more than three decades, from 1984 to 2015. Guests had driven from as far as Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., to attend.

Head of School, Kari Loya, who had just completed a two-week, fully-funded fellowship at the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University with 20 other heads of schools from around the globe, praised two of the world-class assets St. Croix and GHCDS offer its students: natural beauty and the many opportunities this affords, and diversity. He also encouraged graduates to get involved with the School and to give back, especially given the limited resources on island today.

Everyone enjoyed reminiscing about favorite teachers and experiences, and many made new professional connections.  We look forward to another event in New York City in the future!

You Are Invited to our DC Alumni Gathering!

¡Gracias! Merci! Thank You!

Special thanks to Alumni, Kevin Hensley, owner of HH Tire and Battery for speaking to our Introduction to Business Class!

Interesting discussion ensued on the following topics:

  • Challenges faced in the market
  • Type of business structure/Why
  • What’s “In store for the future” of your business
  • Social responsibility platforms
