Dear Alumni and Friends,
At our faculty holiday reception last week, one teacher commented to me with excitement in her voice, “We are a school on the move!” It is invigorating to be part of an organization striving for excellence. Whether because of the growing outreach we have done with our Good Hope, Country Day School, and Good Hope Country Day graduates (click here – link to Alumni News), because of the growing number of talented graduates joining our faculty, or because of the systematic way in which we are addressing long-standing challenges , we are building momentum—and I hope you have the chance to visit soon.
This was evident in our 2015-16 annual report (click here), which celebrated last year’s philanthropic contributions to GHCDS. Approximately 10% of our overall operating budget comes from fundraising (annual fund and the Black & Gold Gala). The annual fund is the backbone of fundraising at nearly all private schools and universities in the United States. Over time, we hope to build up our own annual fund since that is the most efficient and strategic way for supporter dollars to benefit our students. Last year we achieved several records with the annual fund: a) 100% trustee participation, b) 95% faculty participation, c) 114 gifts from alumni!
Last year we received annual fund gifts from $10 to over $10,000. Regardless of the amount, we hope you will make a gift this year, since that in turn will inspire many others, including friends of GHCDS off-island, to make their own gift. For those of you seeking a tax-deduction, you may want to make your gift before December 31, but our fiscal year runs until June 30. You may read more about the annual fund and make a gift online here.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Your continued commitment to GHCDS allows our students and teachers to thrive. In the meantime, from all of us here at GHCDS, we wish you and your family a wonderful Crucian holiday season, and I hope to see some of you at our alumni reception in New York City Feb. 4!
The Alumni Brunch and Fourth Annual GHCDS Alumni Panel took place on Thursday, Dec. 22. Nearly 70 Alumni joined us for the Alumni Brunch festivities. During the Alumni Panel, alumni offered words of advice and encouragement to our current seniors about the transition to college, and to the juniors about strategies for researching and applying to college. The presentations were followed by a Q & A session. This highly anticipated event is invaluable to students as a teaching/learning moment. Thank you to all our alumni, students, faculty and administration for your participation and your support.
