The JV Girls played in this weekend’s double elimination MS/JV basketball tournament which hosted, GHCDS, Complex, Central, Woodson, and Charlotte Amalie’s A & B teams. The GHCDS Panthers defeated, Charlotte Amalie’s A team, Complex, and Central on their path to the championship match. The Panthers were very confident since they would be playing against Central who they had previously defeated in regular play. The Panthers started strong, holding the lead for the majority of the game. However, with the final seconds counting down at the end of the 2nd half, a player from Central made a 3-point basket, tying the game.  The clock was reset to 3 minutes and the Panthers held a 2-point lead for the majority of the time until the last 11 seconds when Central again, scored a 3-point basket putting them up by 1 point. Coach Anderson called a timeout and wrote up a game winning play for the ladies. Seventh grader Aryanna launched a full-court pass to Amalie who was waiting on the 3-point line and then dropped the pass off to lead score La’kaisha who had just sprinted behind Central’s defense. With 4 seconds remaining on the clock, she scored the open layup, putting the Panthers back up by 1. Central attempted a similar full-court pass but it was intercepted by the Panthers, securing the championship victory.

Congratulations to La’Kaisha Graham who was honored as the tournament MVP and Best Defensive Player award for the JV girls.

Central high school defeated Ivanna Eudora Kean High School in the JV Boys division and Woodson defeated Pearl B in the MS Boys division of the tournament.
