This Week in Sports

Hi Panther Families!

All levels of basketball are continuing to work hard, with dreams of making playoffs bouncing in their heads with every step of their dribble. We still don’t have full clarity on every game in our schedules. This is why they have not yet been sent. Please continue to follow our weekly schedule below, and watch for updates, just in case.

Elementary boys took Church of God in a down to the last second win, while our Elementary girls had a fantastic and intensive practice. Both teams have games tomorrow. Thanks Coach Floyd and Coach Jacob for all your time, expertise and spirit!

Our Middle School girls had a bumpy start, with a forfeited game by Free Will. We look forward to seeing them play a full, real game this week. Many thanks to the Evans Dem coaching staff! Coach Ani and Bobby Evans plus Evans baby on the way!

Our Junior Varsity boys had the game of the week, with a 57-56 win over Educational Complex! It was back and forth, all four quarters. When the final whistle blew, it looked like both teams had left their best efforts on the court. It was an exciting and exhausting game to watch, so we can only imagine how it felt on the court! Thanks for your attention to detail, dedication and determination, Coach Peter TeWinkle!

Our Varsity boys played Central and Complex this week to start their season. The first game had a great first half, but our boys couldn’t hold it together for the second. Coach Floyd reported that the boys played much better for the majority of their second game. It’s not all about how we start! It’s more about how we finish! Go fellas, go! Thank you Coach Floyd and Coach Jacob! *Important dates for Varsity:

  1. Parent meeting to discuss season and tournaments this Thursday, February 6th
  2.  Central Tournament February 13th-16th
  3.  Antilles Tournament February 21st-23rd

In Track and Field we had so many great performances, again, this week! While we don’t have this week’s final results, we do have last week’s :

Thank you Coach Klein, Coach Harper, Coach Smokey and Coach Lambert for all your hard work and dedication!

Several Panther students, teachers, parents and coaches took part in some way this past Saturday in the St. Croix Scenic 50, a running race which offered a 50-mile, a 50-mile relay and 50K options. Amid the track season where most runners are covering shorter distances, five Panthers spent hours preparing to complete a leg on a four-person relay. The team of Josie Calhoon (junior), Miko Dizon-Bumann (senior), Carolyn Grimm (senior) and Cooper Crowther (junior) completed the 50-mile distance in 10:16:07. Kelsey Bhola (senior) completed the 12-mile first leg on Team Jolly Roger in 2:30:00. Saturday’s run was the longest any of the teammates had ever run in their lives; it was an experience and accomplishment that none of them will ever forget. Many GHCDS teammates, teachers and parents volunteered at aid stations and lent support to the runners. Way to represent, Panthers!

There is the possibility of a private school Elementary girls softball team being run by one of our community coaches. If your daughter is in 5th or 6th grade, and interested in playing on a team with other private school players, please let me know as soon as possible. I can be emailed at acarter@ghcds.org.
