All Campus Chalk Walk

Students and teachers participate in the All Campus Chalk Walk.

Fourth graders were asked to think of positive things they could say to uplift someone’s spirits. This is what they came up with. So inspirational!

Say Their Names by 11th grader Imani Persuad

Imani focused on writing the names of victims of police brutality in America. She chose to use the Upper School snack shack ground to create these 3 columns of over 50 names.

Pre-K Poetry – Life Doesn’t Frighten Me

In the Pre-kindergarten black history studies, Maya Angelou was spotlighted this week. She was an author, poet, educator and civil rights activist. The children listen to the recital of Maya Angelou’s poem Life Doesn’t Frighten Me several times throughout the week. The Pre kindergarten class created their own Life Doesn’t Frighten Me poems.

The dark doesn’t frighten me at all.

The deep ocean doesn’t frighten me.

The wind is going whoo,

but the wind doesn’t frighten me.

Life doesn’t frighten me at all!

The rain is pouring down,

and I am not scared at all.

I am not scared of the deep ocean.

Not at all, not at all.

Life doesn’t frighten me at all!

Eating snow doesn’t frighten me at all.

Eating candy doesn’t frighten me at all.

Taking a hike doesn’t frighten me at all.

Watching the descendants doesn’t scare me.

A boom sound by the door doesn’t frighten me at all.

Life doesn’t frighten me at all!

Trees don’t frighten me at all.

Wind don’t frighten me.

Not at all, not at all.

Dogs don’t frighten me.

Not at all.

Life doesn’t frighten me at all!

Self Portraits in Third Grade

Chemistry students have been exploring characteristics of solids and mixtures including unit cells and their crystal lattice structures; differences between solutions, colloids, and suspensions; and the Tyndell effect (when particles of a colloid scatter light).

Shana Sargeant demonstrates that light does not scatter when it travels through a sugar-water solution.  The milk in the beaker next to her did not allow the light to pass through.  Try it at home!

Salt crystals (40x magnification) on the left have a cubic crystalline structure, when not weathered into spherical shapes.  A unit cell and its corresponding lattice structure on the right represent the cubic structure of sodium chloride.

Third grade printed snowflakes onto their winter sunset scene!
