GHCDS Health Office: Back to School Information

Greetings Panther Parents and Guardians,

I hope this email finds you and your children rejuvenated and ready for the start of the new school year. This is an exciting and busy time of year as we get our children back on regular sleep routines, wrap up summer reading, finish gathering school and home study supplies, and, of course, completing physical exams with your children's doctors. As a parent myself, I understand that getting our families physically and mentally prepared for school can feel like an herculean event. I hope this message can provide you with all the details you need to check off health requirements from your "To-Do" lists. I will be available on registration day to collect any last health forms, receive medications, and to discuss medical conditions or concerns.

If you have not yet submitted the required health records (you will find the requirements and forms attached below), please email or deliver them no later than registration day. As a reminder, USVI law requires that all students have a physical exam report and updated immunization (or exemption) form on file to attend school. Physical exams are due annually for all students at GHCDS from Nursery through Senior year.

If your child has any acute or chronic medical conditions that may require care during the school year, please reach out to me to schedule an opportunity for us to collaboratively coordinate a plan of care to best meet your child's needs during the school day. I would love to meet with you at any point during the year as conditions change or develop for your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Please deliver any prescription (including Epi Pens, Insulin, Inhalers, etc) and/or doctor recommended OTC medications along with the physician signed "Medication Administration Request" form to the nurse's office no later than registration day. All medications are stored and administered in the nurse's office and cannot be kept on your child's person during the school day unless otherwise directed and signed by your child's doctor.

If a student is sick and cannot attend school, please notify your child's primary teacher/advisor and notify me either by email or call extension 2109. We must hear from you, the parent or guardian, any time a student will not be in attendance. I am including our school's illness policy for your review. If your child is diagnosed with a communicable illness during the year, please notify me so I am able to take appropriate precautions and help guide a smooth return to school for your child.

I look forward to seeing you all at registration day and kicking off a healthy start to the 2024-2025 school year.

Best regards,
Clarissa
