Welcome from the Head of School
Welcome to Good Hope Country Day School - an independent Cambridge International school serving 3-year-olds to 12th graders on the beautiful island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
GHCDS is an amazingly inclusive community, one that lives the values of connection, compassion, and respect for all — every day. We are a school driven to provide the best possible education for each of the children we serve. We provide a full slate of educational, artistic, athletic, and social opportunities at every grade level. We guide our students in their postgraduate planning, to help them find the right fit in college and the workplace. We position our graduates to become lifelong learners.
My family is highly invested in GHCDS. Two of my wife Sally's and my three children have attended: James graduated in 2022 and is now a sophomore at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts. Thomas is currently a junior at GHCDS. (Our oldest, William, finished high school prior to our 2019 move to St. Croix; he just graduated from Denison University in Ohio.)
Several years ago, the GHCDS faculty developed a mantra for our school, one that is rooted in the rich culture of St. Croix and the universal value of serving others. Approved by our Board of Trustees in February 2020, the mantra summarizes more than 50 years of our school’s past, and projects our approach to the present and the future:
“The Island is our Classroom,
the World is our Responsibility.”
At GHCDS, parents, teachers, and students form a close-knit community committed to connecting deeply and authentically with one another, a community determined to deliver our school’s core values of “scholarship, citizenship, integrity, respect,” a community dedicated to preparing students “to excel in college” and “better their island and the world,” as our mission proudly states.
