This Week in Third Grade at GHCDS!

Science:
Our budding scientists were challenged to find solutions to the problem of too many mosquitoes. Working in pairs, students listened to expert advice on mosquitoes and brainstormed ways to address the issue. Through thoughtful discussions and collaboration, students shared and compared ideas, practicing problem-solving skills while tackling this real-world town problem.

Reading:
Each day, students enjoyed reading during R.E.D. (Read Every Day) time. We introduced various genres and launched the Book Passport project, which students will complete throughout the year as they explore different types of books. We also shared inspiring stories of kindness, such as The Last Bus Stop, and began collecting kind words that will be shared in the coming weeks as part of building our classroom community.

Math:
This week, we kicked off our Cambridge math curriculum with an introduction to positive and negative numbers. Students explored integers on a number line, using sea levels as a reference for placing values above and below zero. Through discussions, students shared their reasoning and understanding, sparking valuable conversations about their thought processes.
