GHCDS First Grade Spanish: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, our first graders dove into the vibrant culture of Puerto Rico by exploring the significance of the coquí, the island’s beloved tiny frog. Through crafting their own coquí puppets, students learned fascinating facts about this iconic symbol, which plays a cherished role in Puerto Rican folklore and nature. The class also enjoyed Coquí in the City by Nomar Perez, a heartwarming tale about a young boy who moves from San Juan to the U.S., carrying the spirit of the coquí with him. As we continue our celebrations, students will explore the importance of honoring and preserving cultural traditions.
