Our GHCDS Seniors embarked on a career-boosting journey at this year's Governor’s Workforce Development Summit, themed "Sun, Sand, and Success: Strategies for Work Excellence in the U.S. Virgin Islands." This free community event offered students invaluable insights, connections with industry professionals, and practical tools to supercharge their future careers.
The summit provided a gathering space for professionals, innovators, and leaders to discuss strategies for achieving work excellence within the Virgin Islands. Michael Fazio, president of Workforce 180, noted that this year’s summit had record-breaking attendance, with a significant turnout from students. “The students are here to learn from our great speakers and discover how life in the Virgin Islands offers more than just schooling,” he said.
In attendance were Gov. Albert Bryan Jr., senators, commissioners, directors, entrepreneurs, and other local professionals. Students had the unique opportunity to hear directly from the Governor and many industry experts, gaining perspectives on career growth and economic development.
One of the highlights was the panel discussion, "The Future of Work: The Role of Remote Work in Economic Development," moderated by Susan Magras and featuring panelists Yvette Ali and Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. The panel explored how remote work is transforming the local economy and opening up new growth opportunities in the USVI.
Key topics at the summit included advancing education and training within the transportation industry, the future workforce potential of AR/VR and AI, and charting entrepreneurial paths in the maritime sector.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who organized, participated, and attended this inspiring event—it was an incredible experience for all involved!
