St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands— On Saturday, October 20th, four promising young chefs from Good Hope Country Day School earned first place in the 4-H Youth "Super Chef" Competition held at the University of the Virgin Islands’ Great Hall. The team, composed of 9th and 10th grade students Dominic Hay, Cuyler Roberts, Lily Daley, and Maddox Martinez, impressed the judges with their culinary talent, creating a sophisticated four-course menu under the expert guidance of their teacher, Ms. Alaa Adel (MAEL).
Competing from 12:30 to 3:45 p.m., the students prepared a stunning array of dishes featuring locally sourced ingredients like carambola, leafy greens, and chicken. Their meticulous attention to detail and teamwork, comparable to that of Michelin chefs, resulted in an outstanding meal. Their appetizer, cucumber crostini bites, set a high bar, followed by a delectable dessert of vanilla and carambola ice cream topped with pistachio baklava, which clinched their victory.
Dr. Safiya George, President of UVI, was in attendance and praised the participants for their dedication and creativity. However, it was the Good Hope Country Day team’s seamless teamwork and commitment that stood out, earning them top honors in the competition.
Ms. Adel, a high school teacher at Good Hope Country Day, expressed her pride in her students, noting that their passion and collaboration were key to their success. The victory not only highlights the students’ talents but also underscores the importance of youth involvement in events like the 4-H competition, which helps foster skills in leadership, teamwork, and creativity.
Congratulations to Dominic, Cuyler, Lily, Maddox, and Ms. Adel on this well-deserved achievement!
