Our first graders had a week full of scientific discovery and Halloween excitement! On Tuesday, October 28th, they ventured to the well tower to observe a colony of bats. Led by SEA educator Olivia Walton in Barren Spot, the students were fascinated to learn all about bats on St. Croix. Fun fact: Bats are the only indigenous mammals on the island! Other animals like rats, deer, and mongoose were introduced over time. This incredible encounter with St. Croix's native wildlife is one they’ll never forget.
On Wednesday, students embraced the Halloween spirit by carving a class Jack-O-Lantern. They then headed to the Middle School science room to explore a plastic human skeleton along with real animal skulls and bones. They investigated how joints fit together and identified body parts, adding a touch of hands-on anatomy to their week of spooky fun.
It was an unforgettable Halloween week filled with both science and seasonal fun!
