Computational Thinking & Programming in Grades 1-3

At Good Hope Country Day School, our lower school technology students are diving into the exciting world of computational thinking. They’re learning how to design algorithms and translate them into computer programs that bring their ideas to life.

1st Grade Spotlight:
First graders focused on identifying and creating precise algorithms. They deconstructed animations into detailed, step-by-step instructions, which served as a blueprint for their coding. Using Scratch Jr., they arranged and edited code blocks to animate characters, blending creativity with logic and problem-solving.

Using spreadsheet software, 3rd graders entered data into tables, organized data into ascending and descending order, and presented data using column and pie charts.

These young coders are developing foundational skills in programming while unleashing their imaginations—one algorithm at a time!
