As part of their study of ancient Sumer in Mesopotamia, sixth-grade Panthers stepped back in time to explore the achievements of one of the world’s earliest civilizations. Students tried their hand at writing in Cuneiform, the world’s first known written language, experiencing firsthand what it might have been like to carry and write on clay tablets as ancient students once did.
Beyond the tactile experience of creating their own inscriptions, students also discovered how modern technology is uncovering new secrets about the past. They learned how AI, x-ray imaging, and 3D printing are revolutionizing the study of history. For instance, AI can analyze broken tablets and make educated guesses about the missing segments, helping us piece together stories from thousands of years ago.
This engaging lesson combined hands-on exploration with cutting-edge technology, giving students a deeper appreciation for both the ingenuity of ancient civilizations and the modern tools that bring history to life.
