To keep the GHCDS community in touch with the Board of Trustees’ action we will send an occasional message with general information.
I can start by saying that the GHCDS Board of Trustees is very committed to the success of the school. The board is represented by alumni, parents, and prominent members of the community, all of whom regularly attend board meetings and participate in the working committees including Finance, Advancement, Strategic Planning, Building and Grounds, Education, and Governance.
The newly elected Executive Committee includes me as Board Chair, John Harper and Andrea Crikelair (co Vice Chairs), Chivonne Romney-Lee (Treasurer) and Rhea Abramson (Secretary).
Currently our focus is on supporting Interim Head of School Mr. Bill Sinfield, developing a Strategic Plan, planning for school accreditation, preparing for the search for a permanent HOS, and building enrollment.
HOS Search - Regarding the Head of Schools search, both territory-based, and state-side search firms have been asked to submit proposals for facilitating the search process, one in which we will ensure the involvement of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community. Initially a Search Committee will be named, and forums will be held to understand the desirable characteristics for a successful HOS. More details will be forthcoming.
Strategic Plan - The next GHCDS Strategic Plan is being drafted with significant input from the faculty and staff. This important document will be shared with all constituencies and will serve as the cornerstone for GHCDS's future. It will give us much needed focus and direction.
Enrollment - However, our greatest concern is the urgent need to increase enrolment! Bill Sinfield and the staff are keenly aware of this charge, and I am told that strategies are being implemented to actively promote our wonderful school with the intent of achieving the number of students needed for long-term sustainability. We are all in this together, so everyone can expect to be asked to contribute to this effort and will be provided with the resources to assist.
I know I speak for the Board when saying we are certain that GHCDS provides the premier educational experience on St. Croix. The many activities you see in Mr. Sinfield’s weekly message illustrates a high-level of engagement of students in the learning process, and in comprehensive personal development. I have nothing but praise for the commitment of our faculty and staff.
Without a doubt, GHCDS is a wonderful school. We should all proudly share this sentiment with prospective families and students. It is a pleasure to watch our students continue having a successful school year and see the active engagement of parents and families. Sincerely, Brad Ebersole, Ph.D. (GHCDS Board Chair) 2/13/2025
