Our fourth graders recently experienced one of the coolest science-meets-literature activities ever! As part of Ms. Vaughn’s Book Club, students read Poppy by Avi—a captivating tale full of adventure and woodland creatures—and then took their learning to the next level with a hands-on science investigation.
After a beautiful and engaging retelling of the story by these budding readers and scientists, the class transformed into a team of real-life researchers to dissect owl pellets, making powerful connections between fiction and biology.
A huge thank you to our volunteers and donors who helped make this unforgettable experience possible. And the fun doesn't stop here—students were excited to learn that Poppy is part of a series by Avi, opening the door to even more literary exploration!
We had an absolute blast blending reading, science, and discovery into one exciting adventure!
