Position Description: 

At Good Hope Country Day School, children are the heart of all we do. Our teachers inspire students’ curiosity, nurture their growth, and expand their horizons every day, utilizing best practices in teaching and learning and guiding them as they become their best selves.  Collaborating with colleagues and the island community, GHCDS teachers implement our mission; live our values of integrity, respect, citizenship and scholarship; and bring alive our school’s mantra, “The Island is our Classroomthe World is our Responsibility.”

 

The Lower School Music faculty member teaches choral and/or instrumental music to Nursery - 6th grade students in pull-out classes.  Classes generally consist of approximately 6 -12 students in the Early Learning Center (ELC) and 12 to 18 students in grades 1-6.  ELC music classes meet once per week, and music classes for grades 1-6 meet two or three times per week. She/he also organizes seasonal music concerts for students, parents, and the community. The Lower School music teacher works collaboratively with the Middle & Upper School music teachers and all his/her colleagues, attends various faculty and committee meetings as required, and performs other duties as assigned.

 

In May 2023, Good Hope Country Day School officially became a Cambridge International school. Cambridge International is a global curriculum rooted in academic rigor that reflects the latest educational research. Part of the University of Cambridge in the UK, Cambridge International offers a K-12 curriculum framework in four stages known as the Cambridge Pathway. GHCDS is providing professional development to all teachers, new and returning, to help them learn the Cambridge curriculum.  Prior Cambridge International teaching experience is not required for new GHCDS teachers.

Position Description:

The Middle & Upper School Music faculty member teaches five sections of 7th through 12th grade choral and instrumental music, according to the needs of the school.  She/he also organizes seasonal music concerts for students, parents, and the community.  She/he is responsible for an advisory group; advises one or more student clubs or activities; attends various faculty and committee meetings as required; and performs other duties as assigned.  The Middle & Upper School music teacher works collaboratively with the Middle & Upper School Steel Pan teacher, the Lower School music teacher, and all his/her colleagues, attends various faculty and committee meetings as required, and performs other duties as assigned.

 

This assignment comprises teaching students of all levels, from beginning to advanced, in both choral and instrumental music.  Some classes may be composed of both beginners and advanced students. It is essential that the faculty member be prepared to differentiate instruction according to the needs of the students assigned to each class.
