About The Music Man!
When traveling con man Harold Hill arrives in River City, he convinces the locals to start a band by purchasing uniforms and instruments from him. He intends to flee as soon as he receives the money. Librarian Marian Paroo suspects that he's a fraud, but since her moody brother Winthrop is excited about the band, she keeps silent. As Harold develops feelings for Marian, he faces a difficult
decision about skipping town.

The Performing Arts program at GHCDS has two concurrent objectives: cultivating and developing students’ creativity, theatrical skills, self-expression and sense of self while at the same time helping them to have a rich understanding of other cultures and various social issues and themes. Whether it is through dramatization of the Shakespearean classics or the learning and performance of traditional holiday carols from various cultures and languages, students are exposed to different cultures through their performance arts studies at GHCDS.
The middle and high school produces a comedy/drama every fall and a large-scale musical in the spring. Past shows have included The Addams Family, Cinderella, Little Shop of Horrors, Mamma Mia! Peter and the Starcatcher, Once Upon a Mattress and Grease! This season’s musical is The Music Man! The cast and crew of 30 students from grades 7-12, work and rehearse for 8 weeks, producing what can only be called a professional production. Each of these productions is funded entirely out of support from individual patrons, local businesses, and community members like you and can take up to 300 hours of class and after-school time.
